The International Association of Manichaean Studies

Welcome to the IAMS!

The International Association of Manichaean Studies (IAMS) is a non-profit organization designed to foster the study of all aspects of Manichaeism and its relationship with other religious and philosophical currents. According to its Statutes, it shall:

• promote international cooperation among individual researchers as well as among scientific organizations and institutions;
   
• advance the dissemination of information about work in progress and new discoveries;
   
• facilitate full access to and rapid publication of source materials;
   
• support projects for editing Manichaean sources or dealing with its study;
   
• identify priorities for research at a given time;
   
• publish the Manichaean Studies Newsletter at least annually;
   
• and organize periodic international congresses and symposia.

All this sounds rather ambitiously — and so it is actually meant. Since its establishment in 1989, the Association has indeed fostered the study of Manichaeism; promoted international cooperation among an increasing number of individual scholars and a considerable figure of reputed scientific bodies; disseminated the most recent information about work in progress and new discoveries; and, not least, as a lasting and most palpable proof of its activities a whole run of books has been published and will be brought to light in the near future.

Each individual and each institution with a research interest in Manichaeism is very welcome to join the IAMS; every person and every organization capable to foster the Association’s activities in some way or another is kindly invited to do so!
